KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A Missouri woman said a man took out a gun and shot at her after she refused to give him her telephone number as she walked to church last Thursday afternoon, according to WDAF.
The 22-year-old told police she was walking on Washington near 75th Street in the Waldo neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri when two men in a car pulled up next to her.
“I was just crossing the street. I heard someone yell at me from the car … so I just kind of ignored it and kept walking,” she said.
The woman, who isn’t being identified for her safety, got suspicious, so she pulled out her cellphone and called her mom so she’d have someone to talk with while she walked. The woman said that’s when the driver pulled back around, next to her.
“He was like, ‘Can I have your number?’ I said ‘No’ and kept walking. So he kind of pulled up a little bit in front of me and then shot at the ground right next to me,” she said. After the shots, she says he yelled at her in a nasty tone, warning her that she “better watch how she talks to people.”
Looks like some people are taking the “shooters shoot” mantra a bit too literally. I don’t think this is what the phrase “shooting your love onto a girl” refers to. There are many ways to woo a woman, and shooting a bullet at the ground next to her might be my new favorite. It’s definitely creative. I’ll give him that much. I’ve said it over and over again, but it continues to hold true that women love a bad boy, and there’s nothing more bad boy than attempted murder. Don’t believe me? Read Romeo and Juliet. They made a story about a double suicide into a romantic comedy, so this just takes that line of thinking a step further.
This is basically the grown up version of when you would be mean to the person you liked in elementary school. And if that really was the case, I must have been a stud, because boy were kids mean to me. I remember the girls played this fun prank on me where they refused to acknowledge my existence for like six years. They got me so good.
Back to the love shooting, part of me also thinks that this wasn’t a cat call, and it was just a straight up drive by shooting. Like did he want your phone number, or your actual phone? Then again, stories like this really put into perspective what woman deal with everyday. I mean, when someone unloads a clip on me, at least I won’t be slut shamed in the process. On the other hand, I’m sort of jealous. Being desirable enough that someone will shoot you with a gun is pretty cool. I’d take that as a huge compliment. From now on, I’m definitely going to start taking acts of violence against me as romantic gestures. Someone will pull a gun on me and I’ll be like “at least take me to dinner first”.
Then again, I feel like this is just how people greet each other in Kansas City. Anyone mentally unstable enough to live in that god forsaken place definitely has no problem shooting at someone who gives them a one word answer. 10 minutes in that town and I’m begging to get shot. This girl should consider herself lucky.
So while some people will say that banning guns is an obstruction of freedom, this story proves that its’ an obstruction of love.
