From what I have observed, Racism really isn't an issue here, or at least not in Wichita and surrounding areas. Our kids played with kids that were black, hispanic, biracial, whatever and never thought anything about it. Never had to have any awkward conversations either. So far as institutional BS, I can't see it either. There is a good balance in the workforce as well. Not just for dinky jobs, but the really good paying ones. Seems proportional to population. There seems to be a much greater emphasis on work than anything else out here. Nobody gives a crap just so long as they get the harvest in. Colleges and schools here are solid and not too expensive. There are certain fields out here like CNC Machinist where local schools have troubles keeping good graduation numbers because students are getting hired before graduation. WSU, KU, and KState all have good reputations. I would predict your kids would be fine as long as you keep out of a handful of rough neighborhoods. Even the roughest neighborhoods here probably look like security guarded playgrounds compared to Detroit.
